Pike Pizza

Pike Pizza, 4111 Columbia Pike, at the intersection of Columbia Pike and George Mason Drive, Arlington, VA, 703-521-3010 (Metro Trip Planner - opens in new window) [Washingtonian | WaPo | Citysearch]

First-rate Bolivian. They do not, however, have pizza, despite the name. The best Bolivian sausage around, too. Amazing atmosphere.

I went to Pike Pizza hoping for saltenas, but realized upon arrival that they are only offered from 10am-2pm daily, so if you are in the mood for saltenas it better be during lunchtime!

I also enjoyed the mocachinchi (on the menu it was listed as plain old peach juice). It's a peach juice made from dried peaches with cinnamon in it, served cold on ice, and is quite refreshing!

The whole (Bolivian-American) extended family had a giant take out from Pike's Pizza recently. The sopa de mani (peanut soup) was fantastic, the llajue (hot salsa) was on the green side (less tomato than usual), but it was good and spicy. But the saltenas were, we all felt, a bit sweet and not spicy enough. The beef saltenas were better than the chicken, but both had a sweetish masa that wasn't quite as excellent as it could be. Still, we ate them all up. Thanks for this site!
