Komi
Komi, web site, 1509 17th Street NW, Washington, DC, 202-332-9200 (Metro Trip Planner - opens in new window) [Washingtonian | WaPo | MenuPages | food-plan | openlist | Yelp | Gayot]
A mix of fine dining and Greek-American. The best place in DC right now, by far. $90 for a two and a half hour extravaganza. And yes it is much improved over the previous incarnation, in case you had tried that and found it wanting. Along with CityZen, this is right now DC’s only truly excellent restaurant. I feel I could bring anyone here and impress them.

Comments
The most important part of this restaurant is how intensely personal it is. Contrary to it's formulaic and tired competitors, Komi is a place in which you feel that you immersed in something you could not find elsewhere. With a tremendous respect for the ingredients, and with only few flourishes of preparation, the food speaks with its truest voice. There are no sacrifices being made in its preparation and the service is there to match. The team deserves all the adulation and respect it can get.

Believe the hype. Dinner will take all evening, but it's worth it.
